Cairde: Celtic, Irish, Scots AcousticInstrumentation: guitar, bodhran, fiddle, flute, vocals The Celtic music of Cairde encompasses a vast emotional range, tugs at ancient and romantic roots, and creates an air of enchantment for weddings and receptions. Cairde is equally suited to corporate or other private events looking for lively, upbeat background music. Cairde (pronounced CAR-djuh) is the Irish Gaelic word for “friends,” but it's also a group of four musicians from Arkansas who play traditional and original Celtic music. Using traditional instruments such as fiddle, flute, pennywhistle, guitar, and bodhran (BAH-ron), a Celtic frame drum, Cairde plays music as it was played in Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and other Celtic lands and then brought over by immigrants, as well as original music written in traditional styles. Cairde‘s repertoire includes music intended to accompany dancing, such as lively jigs, reels, polkas and hornpipes. They sing songs with traditional Irish themes of love and longing, national pride and the pleasures of a good pint. The band was founded in summer of 1998 and is now in its seventh year. Their obvious enthusiasm for playing this music together shows that they truly are “cairde.” Cairde has performed across Arkansas and the region at coffeehouses, weddings, dedications, parties and festivals, including several appearances at the North Texas Irish Festival in Dallas, and CelticFest in Jackson, Mississippi.
